ILMALAIVA
by Alli Nissinen · from Hopeakauha: Satuja ja kertomuksia
Adapted Version
Erkki and Matti had a big idea. They wanted to fly! They would build an airship. Everyone would see and be amazed.
They found an old box. They put in nice seats. They added heavy bags for weight. They put in a bottle of warm water. This was easy and fun.
But the hard part was next. They needed wings to lift the box. This was a big problem.
They decided to make wings from wood. The wings would look like big fans. They started to build them.
That night, Erkki had a dream. He dreamed of flying high in the sky. Matti also had a dream. He dreamed of riding through soft clouds.
Their dreams made them very happy. They wanted to work harder on their box.
The first wings were too small. They tried again. The next wings were too big. They tried and tried. Sometimes they sat in their box. It was a fun place to sit.
They thought about all the fun things. They would get toys and presents. The king might give them a horse. Their mother would make yummy snacks. That would be so much fun.
But the wings were not right. How could they put them on the box? They had an idea. They put a long stick on the box. They made a hole for the wing stick. Now the wings were on.
The wings were finally done. They spun around in the wind. It looked very good.
The boys sat in the box. They waited for it to fly. But the box did not move. They tried to push it. It stayed on the ground.
They took out the heavy bags. Maybe the box was too heavy. They sat inside again.
A big wind came. They pushed hard with their feet. The wings spun around. The box made noises. But it did not go up.
The boys knew something was wrong. A real flying box would fly. This one did not. There was a problem in their plan.
They sat and thought. What went wrong? It is good to try new things and keep dreaming.
Original Story
ILMALAIVA
He ottivat vanhan tavaralaatikon ja laittoivat siihen mukavat penkit, joilla heidän sopi istua. Sitte panivat he sinne hiekkasäkkiä painoksi ja vettä pulloon kuumuuden varalle.
Kun pojat aamulla heräsivät, kertoivat he toisilleen unensa. Se oli merkillinen uni. Siitä oli varmaan oleva seurauksia. Ja yhä suuremmalla innolla ryhtyivät he työhön.
Ensimäiset siivet, jotka he olivat tehneet, olivat aivan liian pienet.
Jos he keksisivät ilmalaivan, tulisivat he kuuluiksi koko kylässä.
No, niin! Siitä pulasta päästiin sillä, että lyötiin tanko laatikon päälle poikkipuolin, siihen pantiin sitte reikä, johon siipien tanko istutettiin.
Siivet tulivat lopullisesti valmiiksi.
He odottivat kunnes tuuli puhalsi oikein voimakkaasti.
