Summer comes. They start their work. They look at the ground. They find strange holes. They look at strange rocks. They take a shovel. They take a long stick. They go to dig every morning. They dig in the dirt. They look under big rocks. They hope to find gold.

The summer is long. They find nothing. They feel sad. Their dream is gone. They feel tired.

One week is left. They stop looking. The treasure hunt is over. They put their tools away.

One day is very hot. They go to swim. The lake is very calm. The sand is shiny. The water is cool.

Kalle swims near the shore. He looks at the clear water. He sees something shiny. It is silver. He calls Hannu. "Look here!" he shouts.

Hannu swims back fast. He dives down. He tries to get it. It is stuck. He tries again. He comes up. He holds a big stone. The stone is heavy.

They take the stone home. They break the stone. They see old, shiny coins. The coins are stuck together. It is a big treasure. The coins are very old.

AARTEEN KAIVAJAT

Hannu ja Kalle olivat hyvät ystävät. Heidän kotinsa olivat vierekkäin ja yhdessä he aina kulkivat kouluun. Yhdessä he myöskin vapaahetkinä leikkivät ja yhdessä talvi-iltoina lukivat satuja.

Kevätpuoleen he hyvin hartaasti odottivat koulun loppumista, sillä heillä oli suuria tuumia mielessä. He aikoivat kesäluvalla hakea maasta aarretta.

Ja kun kesä vihdoin tuli, silloin Hannu ja Kalle virkeällä mielellä kävivät työhön käsiksi. He tarkastelivat seudun kodin lähistöllä, merkitsivät jokaisen omituisen kuopan maanpinnassa ja panivat mieleensä jokaisen omituisen kallion kolon. Sitte he kuokka ja lapio olallaan ja pitkä, ohut rautatanko kädessään joka aamu lähtivät työhön aarretta etsimään.

Mutta kesä kului, eivätkä pojat löytäneet mitään. Into rupesi laimenemaan ja unelmat hälvenemään. Yksi viikko oli jälellä lupa-aikaa. Turha oli enää mennä aarteen hakuun. Ei sieltä kuitenkaan mitään tulisi.

Kesäpäivä oli kuuma. Hannu ja Kalle läksivät uimaan. Järven pinta oli aivan tyyni, hiekka kimalteli rannalla.

Pojat makasivat hiekassa ja hakivat timantteja. Kauniita olivat pikku kivet, mutta timantteja eivät ne olleet. Ja taas juoksivat pojat veteen. Hannu ui etäälle, mutta Kalle pysytteli lähempänä rantaa. Kun hän siinä kirkkaan hiekkapohjan yli uiskenteli, näki hän pohjassa jotain, joka hohti hopealle. Hän huusi Hannua luoksensa.
