Malin and the Whispering Wind

CEFR A1 Age 5 321 words 2 min Canon 100/100

Once, a boy named Malin lived with joy. He lived with his mother in a village.

A kind fairy named Whisper thought about Malin. She wondered how to teach him kindness.

One day, sailors chased Malin on his boat. The Whispering Wind helped him escape. It showed him a magic treasure map.

Whisper told Malin about the treasure. "Be safe," she whispered. Malin took the magic treasure. Whisper kept some other treasures safe for him.

Malin became very rich. He bought a big, shiny boat. He bought fine, new clothes. He started to care more about looking nice. He forgot to be kind. Whisper watched him from far away. She hoped he would think of her.

Malin's mother came to the dock. She was so happy to see her son. She ran to him with open arms.

Whisper watched from a tree. Malin was too busy showing off. He did not greet his mother kindly. He looked at his shiny shoes instead.

Then, magic symbols from the treasure appeared on Malin. They glowed softly on his skin. He started to turn into a stone statue. It was a slow change.

Malin's mother cried sadly. She saw her son changing into stone. She was worried and full of love. "My son, please be kind," she said softly.

Whisper felt sorry for Malin. She knew he was learning a hard lesson. It was a key lesson for all.

Malin became a stone statue. His mother's sad, loving face was on the stone. "I am sorry, Mother," Malin said softly. His voice was quiet like a whisper.

When Malin said sorry, the stone began to crack. Little lines spread across it. He turned back to normal. He hugged his mother tightly. He would not let go.

Whisper smiled softly. Malin learned that being kind to his mother matters more than being rich. He promised to always be kind. Always be kind to your kin.

When Malin rejects his mother at the dock, ancient symbols from the cursed treasure appear, transforming him into stone, to his mother's horror.
