Adapted Version
Once, a kind girl lived. Her name was Center Alley. She lived with her Stepmother and Stepsisters. Center Alley worked very hard. Her Stepmother made her clean and cook. Center Alley was tired.
One day, Center Alley heard news. The Prince had a big party. It was a ball. Center Alley wanted to go. Her Stepmother laughed at her. "You cannot go," she said. "Your clothes are old." Center Alley felt sad.
Center Alley sat by the fire. She cried big tears. She was all alone. A kind old woman came. It was her Godmother. Her Godmother smiled.
"Why do you cry?" asked Godmother. "Go to the garden. Bring a big pumpkin. Bring six little rats." Center Alley went quickly.
Godmother waved her hand. Poof! The pumpkin became a carriage. It was gold and shiny. The rats became six white horses. Center Alley's old clothes changed. She had a pretty dress. She had shiny glass shoes. Center Alley looked pretty.
Center Alley went to the ball. The Prince saw her. He liked her very much. He asked her to dance. They danced all night. The Prince danced only with her. Center Alley was happy.
The Stepmother saw the girl. Her Stepsisters saw her too. They did not know her. "Who is that girl?" they asked. They felt surprised. They felt a little angry. The Prince liked her best.
The clock struck twelve times. It was midnight. Center Alley ran fast. She ran down the stairs. One glass shoe came off. She left it on the steps. She ran home quickly.
The Prince found the glass shoe. He picked it up. "I will find that girl," he said. "I will marry her. She will be his wife. He must find her."
The Prince looked for the girl. He went to all houses. He came to Center Alley's house. The Stepsisters tried the shoe. It was too small for them. Their feet did not fit.
The Prince saw Center Alley. She sat by the fire. Her clothes were old. "Let her try the shoe," he said. The Stepmother said no. "She cannot try it," she said. But the Prince said yes.
Center Alley tried the glass shoe. It fit her foot just right. The Prince was very happy. He knew it was her. He put his arms around her. Center Alley smiled.
Center Alley married the Prince. She went to live in his palace. She was very happy there. She lived a long, happy life. She was free from her old life.
